2-Way Stretch Fabric?
This stretch fabric will only stretch widthwise or lengthwise, but not both ways at the same time. This stretch usually occurs from selvage to selvage—the ends of the fabric created to prevent the garment from unraveling.
What fabric stretches in 2 way?
2-way stretch fabrics stretch in one direction, usually from selvedge to selvedge (but can be in other directions depending on the knit).
Why stretch both sides?
Maintaining symmetry in the movement and strength of the body is key to avoiding both overuse and acute injuries.
What is two way fabric?
The stretch of fabrics is expressed either as ‘2-way’ or ‘4-way’. 2-way stretch is horizontal, running across the fabric from selvedge to selvedge. 4-way stretch is both horizontal AND vertical, running across the fabric and up/down the fabric.
Why do fabrics stretch?
Stretch fabrics (knit fabrics) are made using interlaced looped fibres rather than woven fibres. The ‘knit’ or loops give the fabric some of its stretch, alongside elastic fibres which have stretchy properties themselves; for example lycra/spandex/elastane (three names for the same fibre), rayon/viscose (two names for the same fibre) or polyester.
